As far as I understand it there is positive and negative charge. But really, what is charge? Like charges repel and opposite charges attract. That is what we can observe. But are they really positive and negative? Or are these words just arbitrary words? Is that just a framework we can use to explain and predict what we can observe? ... and if so, what is the fundamental truth behind charge? Where does charge happen? At the atomic level? Is our model of the atom even correct or is that also just theory to help us explain what we observe? Democritus came up with the concept for the atom in 370 BC in a thought experiment... then 2000 years later there was J. Dalton who came up with a crude model for the atom in 1803. In 1897 J. J. Thompson came up with a crude concept for positive and negative charges in an atom "pudding" that was abandoned in 1911 when Rutherford came up with another model where the atom has a nucleus which contains protons and neutrons with electrons on the outside... this model was refined by Niels Bohr who added electron orbits to this model. Then came Shrödinger in 1926 who removed the orbits and replaced them with clouds where it would be likely that an electron would be located due to the concept of uncertainty... This is still the model for the atom that we use today. But is it the final truth? This is the image of an actual hydrogen atom... it's the best thing we have so far. Looks like a ripple in a pond. A wave function. Resonance... frequency... ? There is no real point to this post.

Started coloring a little today to get an idea of how the model will read when colors are applied. Still need to work on the color scheme...
Refined the socks a little today. Something here is still not quite right. Maybe they don't sit high enough?
Provided there was a perfectly straight tunnel right through the center of the earth... If one was to take a rock and drop it down that tunnel... would it fall all the way to the center of the earth, over shoot, turn around, fall back towards the center, overshoot etc. etc. until eventually coming to rest, floating weightlessly right at the center of the planet? If so, what would be the force holding it there? Would it be gravity PULLING it with equal force from all sides as the mass of the earth would now be equal on all sides, pulling the rock towards it? If that were the case, the same force should be acting on the material of the earth itself as well. Does this mean there is a point somewhere half way towards the center of a planet where gravity and pressure are greatest and would they then actually start becoming less again towards the center of it? Add to this the centrifugal force of a planets rotation, actually pushing material outwards... Perhaps there really is a cavity at the center of the earth? There is a video on the internet of a rotating ball of water with air bubbles in microgravity and the bubbles do collect in the center of it. Admittedly this little sphere would not have much gravitational force to speak of so it's held together by surface tension instead. There are probably different physics at play at this scale... Here is another video this time with a non rotating sphere of water. Be that as it may ... the deepest we have ever drilled into the earths crust is the Kola Super Deep Borehole which is just over 12 km deep while the distance from the surface of the earth to it's center is 6371 km on average... In other words we have barely even scratched the surface and anything that goes on at the center of our planet is nothing more than a theory based on our current understanding of the universe which changes all the time.
With all the crazy currency printing going on lately I decided to buy some silver combi bars today. Seems to be a good price currently and who knows how much longer you can even get some.
Dug up some shoes I modeled back in around 2008. Brought them into zbrush and fitted them to Aleysha's feet. Think they might work well! They just need a little bit of an overhaul.
Today I learned about the difference between currency and money thanks to this great series.
I think as a result of this corona virus crisis the world is currently going through, many more people will soon understand the importance of the store of value aspect of true money. The trillions of dollars that are currently being printed will dilute the currency supply, drive up prices considerably and thereby transfer wealth out of peoples pockets and bank accounts to the government and the banking system. But what types of true money are there? I can think of gold, silver and bitcoin. They have a fixed supply (at least in the case of Bitcoin) and are therefore a good store of value. So now would be a good time to transfer some currency into money before the effects of the currency printing are being felt. Guess that's what I'll be doing today!
Made a hair cap to seal gaps between hair strands so the head doesn't show through plus did a little more hair shaping and shaping on some other parts.
Sometimes I wonder what the world might look like if none of us had to worry about money and could focus on doing things simply because they are worth doing. I need to plan my activities around making an income. Money decides how I spend nearly all hours of my day. This is the same for most people... but what if all our basic needs like shelter, food, clothing and healthcare were taken care of by "Jarvis" AI, automation and robots powered by renewable energy? Would we even still need money then? Would it be freeing for humanity? Building rockets to go colonize Mars wouldn't be expensive anymore if there was no money. We would simply do it just because it is worth doing. What would I do? I can think of a million things I'd like to do and know more about but don't have the time/money to explore.
Not even sure this is any better than what I had yesterday. Tried to give the hand more definition and structure while at the same time trying to keep it simple and cartoony... I'll move on for now.
As I understand it the earliest modern human skeletal remains (biologically identical and presumably with comparable intelligence levels of humans today) have been dated to 150 - 160 thousand years BP (Before Present). At the same time the earliest record of human history reaches back only as far as roughly 6000 BP. So... if it so happened that there were modern humans living for all this time... why is there no history? What happened in the past 150,000 years? An answer may perhaps be found in geological records of cataclysmic events during past 150,000 years. Randall Carlson did some amazing work gathering this information. He gave a very interesting talk on the subject. Above is a diagram of events that happened in the past 150,000 years that can be categorized as catastrophic. In other words, events of a magnitude that would have the potential to reset our modern, technologically advanced society to the stone ages were they to happen today. At the same time there are ancient megalithic structures found all over the planet that stem from a time long before different human cultures allegedly began sailing the oceans and started interacting with each other. Yet they share many similarities. Very ancient and weathered, but sophisticated poligonal walls built from very large and hard stone blocks that often weigh many tons each can be found in different locations across the globe. Here are some examples collected from Jimmy's great video: They also share curious nobs on some of their surfaces that no one has a good explanation for. There are also Pyramids across the globe, not only in Egypt... and even the Egyptian pyramids seem to predate the ancient Egyptian cultures. So who built all these structures? Could it have been a civilization that we have no record of? How far back does the human story actually go? How far have we come before? These question have been nagging on my mind for years. As Graham Hancock says: "We are a species with amnesia." Man, I would LOVE to know the truth and explore this further!
Starship prototype SN1 was destroyed during a pressure test on Friday 28th of February... was kind of sad to see the thing go after watching it come together over the past days. Still a very fun explosion and it did fly... I just really hope this doesn't throw back their schedule. The corona virus has finally arrived in my neighborhood over the weekend. Good thing I have been buying a little extra imperishable food supplies every time I have gone shopping over the past few weeks because... now suddenly the shelves are empty as people start to stock up. Started refining the fingernails and adjusting poly groups accordingly. The hands themselves still need a little work.
